Unknown History of Russia on a Modern Maritime Map" and the Reconnaissance and Diving Team on the Stage of Moscow Dive Show 2025
Are there treasures on sunken ships? What do underwater explorers find on the decks and in the holds of merchant ships? What valuables did people carry in the 18th and 19th centuries from Europe to Russia and from Russia to Europe? These questions are of interest to almost everyone who encounters the results of the underwater research of the Reconnaissance and Diving Team in the Gulf of Finland.
The project "Voices of Lost Ships. Unknown History of Russia on a Modern Maritime Map", implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund and the Russian Geographical Society, shows merchant ships from different eras of navigation - ships, filmed in detail in 3D format, which help answer these questions.
Who and on what ships sailed along the Gulf of Finland, how did science, economics, wars or trade sanctions change the appearance of ships, their sailing equipment, change the logistics of navigation? What role did the islands of the Gulf of Finland Gogland, Moshchny, Bolshoy Tyuters, Seskar play?
Underwater researchers of the Reconnaissance and Diving Team will answer these and other questions about the history of merchant shipping in Russia and the study of sunken ships, and will also introduce the results of scientific examinations of the contents of ship holds on the stage of the Moscow Dive Show 2025 on Sunday, February 23.
