Egor Vasiliev is a 6th-class deep-sea diver, the organizer and protagonist of search and rescue dive expeditions in the extreme conditions of Yakutia's Arctic rivers, and the inspiration and leader of the SakhaDive team.
Egor has been diving since 2011. The underwater world is both his work and his life. He searches for and recovers prehistoric animal bones and ancient fossils from the bottom of the Lena, Adycha, Kolyma, Indigirka, and other Yakut rivers. His impressive finds include mammoth tusks and prehistoric animal skulls. Egor himself cites the horn of a broad-browed moose, which lived 30,000-40,000 years ago, as his most memorable trophy.
The extreme diver donates his finds to local museums—the Zhigansky Historical Museum and the Mammoth Museum—with the dream of one day opening an Underwater Paleontology Museum in Yakutsk.
In March 2025, a photo essay about Yegor by Evgenia and Maxim Arbugaev was published in The New York Times, bringing the Yakut diver to the world's attention. Yegor and his team are currently producing a film for the Gostiny Dvor theater screening specifically for the Moscow Dive Show about Yakut ice diving in extreme temperatures below -50°C
